Tamás Tófalvy, PhD is a researcher, lecturer, consultant, and NGO activist. Areas of specialization: cultural aspects of and policies related to the transforming digital media ecosystem, especially in the fields of journalism and popular music. Currently he is assistant professor at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Department of Sociology and Communications, and Head of the Digital Media MA program of the Communications and Media Studies major. He is also secretary general at the Association of Hungarian Content Providers, and fellow at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences Media Research Group. He was the co-founding chair of IASPM Hungary and its sister organization, the Music Networks Association. In 2012-13 he was a Fulbright fellow at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, in 2011-12 he spent a semester as a Julius Rezler fellow at Indiana University Bloomington. He published two monographs (in Hungarian) in 2017, "The Making of Digital Good and Evil: Technology, Culture and the Boundaries of Journalism" (L’Harmattan), and "Beyond Subculture and Back: Popular Music Scenes, Genres and the Internet" (Műút). With Emilia Barna, he recently co-edited the book Made in Hungary: Studies in Popular Music (2017, Routledge).
